We must all pray and work for peace in our country. When there’s peace, there’s stability. When there’s stability. When there’s stability, there is growth and progress. And then only will there be prosperity.
To achieve peace, each and every single individual must contribute his share. Yet what can people do in their everyday life to attain and express peace? How must they act in the concrete situations they find themselves in for peace to be manifest?
Peace is an effect. It is a consequence. It flows from, and is caused by love. Love is the single most powerful and effective force in the world. It is the story of the human race. It modifies human behavior and determines personality. It influences he cause of biological, social, mental and moral evolution and shapes social institutions and cultures. Love grows, nurtures, heals, liberates, and unites.
We need to love and learn to share it with others. We love when we treat our fellowmen with justice, fairness and kindness. We love when we stop ourselves from exploiting or taking advantage of the weak or helpless. We love when we constantly and deliberately think of the good of others rather than our own selfish interests. We act with love when we look at the good in all people and in all situations rather than accentuate imperfections and limitations. The law of laws is to do unto others only as we would be done by them, for whatever we do or send out will come back to us, whatever we do to others will be done to us.
To love others necessitates that we first love ourselves. For we can’t give or share what we do not have. Many people, despite their contrary claim do not really love, or even like, themselves. They have little or no self-esteem. They belittle themselves without perhaps realizing it. They have a long litany of things they can’t do, even before they have given themselves a chance to try them. They grow up with a poor self-concept which is clearly manifested in the way they treat themselves and others, thoughtlessly and inconsiderately. If I feel I have no dignity, how can I treat the others with dignity? If I don’t love myself, how can I find the others lovable?
If there is love within our hearts, we will be able to radiate the same to others to heal, bless, prosper and direct it in waves of good to the whole nation. And others will spread this dynamic force to still others, creating a chain reaction. Love is creative. It lets the other be. It elicits the best qualities from one’s self and from others.
We must learn and live love. Let us start by becoming more aware of what we think and feel and what we say. The quality of our life is brought about by the quality of our thinking. Thoughts produce action. Negative thoughts yield negative effects while positive thoughts give us positive and advantageous results. As words are representations of thoughts, we need to choose our words with diligence and care. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Owing to the vibratory power of words, what we voice we begin to attract. People who continually speak of love and peace will attract the good and the positive.
Let there be peace be peace and let it begin within ourselves. Peace begins if we first teach ourselves love by feeling, thinking and speaking of love…
