What are your favorite desserts? I know I am a great dessert lover. I actually love food in general, but I sure have quiet a sweet tooth. I just feel that sometimes a meal is not complete without having something sweet at the end. I call it the “happy ending”! LOL:)
I know I know…they talk about all those extra calories and diabetes, however, the sugar high and the feeling of satisfaction that you will feel after eating your favorite dessert is just no match for any potential guilt or health problems that you might experience afterwards. As I see it life is too short so you might as well enjoy yourself a little. Who knows, you might get hit by a train tomorrow and never enjoy a piece of good cake. At that point I guess it is easy for anyone to conclude that your life just wasn’t worth it.
Yes, I know what people say about keeping a slim figure and wearing those shiny skimpy outfits. However, I am more about comfort and joy than I am about glittery clothing and looks which in the end do not make all that many people happy because they are not really being loved for who they are, but rather for how they look.
So let me get into the desserts discussion. Being that I am a huge foodie, I always love to experiment with new foods and flavors. I always like trying new things. Some people just stick to what they know, but I feel like they miss out on a lot of really tasty treats by limiting themselves.
So I guess the most common form of dessert would be a cake. Some of my favorites include the Tiramisu cake, the vanilla cake, the Black Forest cake, Napoleon cake, and any type of chocolate cake will do. I also love cakes that have canned fruit with jelly on top. Those cakes are usually not that good on their own, but I mainly eat them for the fruit on top. I also love those vanilla rolls and fruit rolls. Oh, and lets not forget about carrot cake and cheese cake! Yum!
When it comes to pie, I know I love a cherry pie or an apple pie. I also love any type of crispy sugary pastry. I love cheese filled croissants, walnut and raisin cookies, cookies with dates that they often sell at the Chinese shops and delis. I will eat any sort of donuts, anything filled with raspberry, cream, or caramel. I love condensed milk, waffles, sugary cereals like POPS and Frosted Corn Flakes. I love flan and raisin bread.
I love Yoplait yogurt and Red Mango yogurt. I love candies and chocolates, flavors depending on my mood. I love Thai Bubble Tea as well. Obviously I love all kinds of ice cream, dried fruit like dates and cherries, canned fruit like Dole peaches and canned cherries. I love Indian tea biscuits, butter cookies, and even fresh fruit.
I also sometimes love trail mix and creme brûlée. Chocolate chip or coconut cookies are a weakness as well. The only dessert I am not too fond of would be brownies. Too chocolaty and too sweet for me. Wait, I lied. I am also not a very big fan of cupcakes. Again because they are too sweet, but also because they lack flavor for the amount of sugar that you are ingesting. Now when it comes to muffins, I usually will get something with raisons from Dunkin Donuts a few times a year and ask them to toast it with butter to get that warm buttery feeling.
What about Macarons? Those look great and colorful as a Christmas gift, however they have no place in my belly. These sweets are very pretty, but consist of nothing but dry sugar and food colorant. This is neither tasty nor healthy. Not worth the sugar full at all.
How about treats like pumpkin pie or lemon cake? Pumpkin pie is seriously nasty. It tastes nothing like pumpkin, but instead tastes like some sort of nasty pudding with lots of artificial flavors and sugar in it. Its enough to make me barf! As far as lemon cake is concerned, the only person who I ever trusted with this recipe was my late grandma, who somehow managed to make lemon cake no taste like lemon!
What about something like gelato? Now I know gelato looks colorful and rich. By the looks of it this could be a dessert full of flavor and would save you some calories if you were looking to avoid eating real ice cream or frozen yogurt. However, trust that gelato tastes like some artificial pain and is not cream, rich, or satisfying at all. You might as well be eating dirt in a can. So totally not worth the swap!
Also, I would like to mention that I love any dessert topped with crispy almonds. It does not matter if it is a danish or a pie, almonds make me feel sky high!
I also enjoy eating cottage cheese with my favorite jelly sometimes. I love raspberry-filled cookies with chocolate on top. Sometimes I will just have a mint or a piece of gum. I do not like gum that tastes too artificial. I like more natural flavors. I try to eat sugarless gum, but if I have to have bubble-gum, I let the sugar in because that is the only way you get the flavor.
I also love root bear float and cotton candy. How about those roasted nuts they sell on every street corner in New York City? I am totally addicted to those. Sometimes I like to eat jello and anything with marshmallow. I also love Indian desserts like Gulab Jamun, Jalebi, and sweet rice just to name a few.
If I feel like being healthy, I might put an apple with sugar on top in the over and eat that too. I sometimes also have cottage cheese with honey or fruit syrup. Some people even eat granola bars or sports bars as dessert because surprisingly some of those things are very sugary.
