ObamaCare: Pros and Cons of ObamaCare
When we think about ObamaCare, we think of so many sides of the coin. There are so many people for it and there are even more people against it. It is tricky to figure out where you stand on this issue sometimes, however, some of these thoughts might help.
So sometimes a pro can be a con for some people. Sometimes the pros and cons are intertwined very closely. Lets begin with some interesting points that we already know of about ObamaCare.
Here are some general pieces of information from the obamacarefacts.com website. The website states that ObamaCare provides access to high-quality and affordable health insurance through Medicaid expansion, their employers, and the Health Insurance Marketplace to tens of millions of uninsured people. This statement in and of itself is very confusing. Obviously, many people have different types of employers who may or may not be providing health insurance at this time. As far as “Medicaid expansion”, does this mean that now we are taking money out of Medicaid to pay for the health insurance needs of younger people? What about the “Health Insurance Marketplace”? What exactly is that and which companies participate?
Upon further examination of the costs and benefits associated with ObamaCare, I realized that it may not necessarily be worth it. Yes, you can get some fairly inexpensive coverage through one of the major health insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield for instance. However, the devil is in the details. Only PPO coverage allows you to see any doctor you like. ObamaCare does not offer that. You get something called an EPO plan. This means that you get a very limited network of doctors to choose from and no one outside of that small network will take your crappy cheap ObamaCare coverage. So what gives?
Also, just to even qualify for ObamaCare, you need to be really poor. If you are a single person, you cannot earn more than $35,000 per year in order to get any sort of discount at all. So I really do not see the point of this whole ObamaCare. This ridiculous coverage almost makes me want to vote Republican in 2016…Well, I said almost, lol.
I mean we all know that if something sounds too good to be true it probably is. At the end of the day, unless you are paying for premium insurance, you are not going to receive premium service. Yes, sometimes you might be able to find a good provider who is near you and is also skilled and who also accepts ObamaCare. But really, what are the odds? AND…what a pain in the ass! Healthcare should not be this difficult for poor people. Obama trust me, their lives are already difficult enough as it is! Why do poor people have to fight for everything while the rich people just have everything handed to them on a little plate? Maybe everything really is about the money like Donald Trump says.
I feel that Obama has made many promises to the poor people, but did not really meet a lot of them. I do feel that our economy has turned for the better ever since he became president though. However, there is still so much work to be done. I would not vote for Hilary Clinton just because she is so adamant on continuing with ObamaCare. I do not think this plan is a good idea and I think we should find a way to give poor people the same benefits as those the rich people get at a lower cost based on their income. No one’s health should have to suffer just because they are poor. Well, I guess I might be living in a fair tale here. Money does rule the world after all.
So even though I am far from rich, I would rather pay a bit more for a good PPO insurance that is accepted by all major providers. I would rather have insurance where the deductible is low and the coverage is high. I think paying a bit more monthly might be worth it to get the necessary coverage in the future. Also, the ObamaCare penalty is now 2% of your annual income. This is the same as paying the annual costs of a major insurance plan anyhow. You might as well be covered because they will make you pay regardless.
Yes, we poor American citizens are really screwed. Any which way we go we are required to pay. So might as well make the best of it and try to enjoy your life. Chances are you will die with a ton of debt over your head and a bunch of unfulfilled dreams because you could not afford to pay for them.
I feel like Bernie Sanders is a great Democratic presidential candidate. He is willing to give Americans three months of maternity leave, free health insurance, and a minimum wage increase. I am longing for the day that the minimum wage would be raised to $25/hr. These days this is the minimum amount necessary to live in a safety and fairly decent situation. I feel like no American who is working 40 hours per week or more should be earning anything less than $50,000 per year.
Truthfully, these days to live fairly comfortably in America, you need to be making at least $150,000 annually. That is very difficult to do when the median salary is about $49k per year. The only way to earn this kind of cash is to have your own business. Let’s not forget that even if you are making $150k annually working for a corporation, by the time those taxes are taken out you are left with nothing. So while you might have spent most of your adult life climbing the corporate ladder, at the end of the day you still get zilch! And so goes the American Dream right down the toilet!
In order to keep ObamaCare alive, the government raised the taxes mostly on high earners, but also on the middle class a bit. However, I think that the high earners should be taxed a bit more so the poor people would enjoy the same quality healthcare at an affordable price. Now when I say high earners, I do not mean people earning below $200,000 per year. I mean those really rich people who are no longer considered in the middle class. The upper class people who have money to spare and plenty of savings are the ones who should take on most taxes. Why take away money from people who are one paycheck away from being out on the street? That is just inhumane. What about those billionaires like Donald Trump? What are they going to do with all that money that they have no use for in their lifetime?
I guess the point of Capitalism is to allow for the rich and the poor to exist. The point is to make hard work be worth something. However, plenty of people work very hard every day and just do not earn the same as those rich people who have connections and a great education.
I think the only way you are going to get free insurance through ObamaCare is if you have no money at all. But honestly, if you are homeless, who even cares about health insurance? I mean I guess you will not even have the money to travel to that remote location where you could be seen by an in network provider. You will just go to the nearest emergency room and drop dead somewhere on a corner. Sad but true.
It is sad that folks who barely miss the poverty line do not qualify for any sort of assistance and are forced to pay the same high insurance premiums as everyone else. Why must you be homeless in order for the government to realize that you need help? Why must your life fall into such complete desperation that you will not have a roof over your head and food on your table?
The government needs to make all colleges free to attend. Not just the shitty public colleges that do not teach anything, but colleges like Columbia University and NYU. Everyone deserves a good education even if you are not genius or rich. If the government gave kids an equal chance at success, we would not have such poverty everywhere. However, that is the whole thing with Democracy and Capitalism…these systems are just not perfect and not entirely fair to everyone. And so it goes and the dance never ends. The rich get richer and the poor mostly struggle living paycheck to paycheck and hoping to win the lottery one day although they cannot afford to play.
In order to get an exemption for the uninsured penalty of ObamaCare you are required to fill out a form. Most people will not qualify for an exemption unless they have been homeless, went to prison, survived some sort of domestic abuse, had a lot of debt for some sort of crazy medical expense, went through bankruptcy, or were out of the country all together during the time that they were uninsured. Obviously, if you are a normal person living a normal life you cannot get a waiver.
One of the supposed benefits of ObamaCare is that you cannot be denied coverage because you are sick. You also cannot get charged more because of some pre-existing condition or because you are a woman. However, you see sometimes certain doctors will not treat very sick people or women under ObamaCare. Also, because your insurance is so cheap, chances are that you will have to pay more deductible costs and that the insurance may not be able to cover you for some expensive procedures. So in one way or another the poor people are being screwed as usual. The rich people like the president of the United States Barack Obama make promises about how they will get the poor people a fair shake, but as usual that never happens.
Poor people one day just have to wake up and realize that no one is just going to give them a nice life of the rich people without them doing something drastic to become rich themselves. Maybe the poor people have to work more hours or go to school and just do more than the average person to get ahead. I know that this does not sound fair, however, life is not fair. Sometimes if you really want something you must be willing to go above and beyond in order to get it. Maybe rich people became that way by doing the impossible. Not everyone had their fortunes just handed over to them as well. I can kind of understand why a rich person who has worked very hard to get to where they are in life would feel bad paying more taxes on their money, however, I do think that the rich people could afford to be a little more generous. This is basically because we simply cannot control all events in life and at times it may be very difficult and nearly impossible for some folks to actually better their lives.
Because of the Healthcare Mandate brought about by ObamaCare, many businesses have had to cut employee hours because they just cannot afford to cover the medical insurance costs. So once again here the poor are getting poorer. However, on the bright side, small businesses do get tax credits for up to 50% of the health insurance premiums paid by their employees.
Supposedly young people can get some of the best deals on health insurance through ObamaCare because the are in great health. However, I just do not see how this is practically possible.
I do not think that it is right to make people pay for something they do not want. I should not have to pay 2% of my tiny income to the government at the end of the year if I choose not to have insurance. The government already steals most of my paycheck as it is.
No matter what insurance plan you subscribe to, the enrollment period date is right around the corner. On Sunday, January 31st is the time to enroll in some type of insurance plan. Whether you choose ObamaCare or not, if you do not sign up for some sort of medical coverage on this date, you will not be able to do so without paying some fees until the next enrollment period. Some insurance providers do have enrollment periods between November 1st– January 31st. This is the case for United Healthcare for instance. Well, I guess this is not that bad.
It is so upsetting to remember the lies that Obama used to tell people like “if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor”. If you look into the details of ObamaCare, this definitely is not true. In fact, you will be lucky if you are able to see any doctor at all.
All of these politicians always have the most glamorous plans on how they are going to change America for the better, however, non of them ever want to disclose the nitty gritty details because they know full well that people will not like them. You are promised the world only to end up once again with your face in the dirt. Not very cool at all! I am not sure how much any politician really cares about the American people, however, I do feel that most things they do and say is mainly to gain votes and line their pockets. This is especially true of the Republican Party.
The ObamaCare penalty is an economic disaster for the young millennials. Young kids who are just out of college having to pay a thousand dollars in fines because the cannot afford the hefty insurance premiums under ObamaCare. This is such an embarrassment! I thought the whole point of ObamaCare was to make life easier for the poor people, not to make them struggle even more! Do these politicians have a heart or any decency at all? I doubt so. While Obama is able to spend the rest of his days on a lofty Hawaiian vacation, we poor working people are stuck having to deal with his mess. What a sham! Hopefully HealthCare.gov does not break down this year!
