madamenoire.com is a lifestyle and entertainment blog which mainly focuses on black women. I actually love to read Madame Noire for self help articles. So while visiting the colorful homepage, I notice that the article previews are spinning very fast and not giving me enough time to actually read the content preview.
There are large advertisements on top, left, and right sides of the page, however, it is relatively easy to scroll through the page as you are entertained by many colorful videos and pictures. The scroll bar is actually hidden by the advertisement on the right side of the page and it does take a while to scroll all the way down to the end of the home page.
I also notice that on the top right side of the page you get an option to sign up for the Madame Noire newsletter and to share the page on social media.
On the bottom right of Madame Noire homepage, I also notice a “Popular Stories” section and a “You Might Also Like” section. Not sure how they actually determine what I might like as based on the article titles in this section I am clearly not interested.
On the bottom of the Madame Noire homepage, I see the actual website description, so it seems and a variety of categories listed in pink font.
The “Advertising” section I actually like a lot because it provides a very simple form for a potential advertiser to use in order to contact Madame Noire with an offer. This is one of the best “boring” pages I have seen in a while.
The “About” section is absolutely terrible and very unprofessional. It is supposed to display the names and pictures of the people who work for Madame Noire, however, some of the names do not have capital letters and also when you click to see the pictures, you get an error message. So clearly this page needs some work. Also, I do not like that Madame Noire boasts about how many people come to visit the page. I think this can be found out easily with proper SEO research, so it feels like the editors are insecure and have a need to justify the existence of this website.
The “Contact Us” page is very plain. It provides a bunch of addresses and an email address, however, there is no phone number so this makes me think that the Madame Noire team does not wish to be disturbed. Also, before I was even able to get to the contact information, I was bombarded with a huge advertisement that took up my whole screen, and while attempting to close it I almost closed the page.
I notice that the categories on top of the homepage are similar to the ones at the bottom of the homepage. Only the bottom of the homepage has the “Advertising”, “About”, and “Contact Us” sections and is missing some of the categories on top of the homepage. Well, let me go ahead and talk about the rest of the categories on Madame Noire.
The “Entertainment” section is all about the black celebrity drama stories. Nothing unusual. Now the “Love & Relationships” is my favorite section because it offers a much needed self help section which all of us can appreciate any day of the week. The “Hair” section provides many cool tips and tricks about how to get the hairstyles of the popular black stars.
The “Fashion” section almost looks hilarious because everything is so crazy, funny, or loud looking. It is almost like the anti-fashion page, lol:).
The “Health” section gives a lot of interesting health tips and dieting advice. This one I actually found pretty useful.
Now there is also a section called “MN Business”. The name is kind of wacky, but after visiting this part of Madame Noire, I realized that this was a section giving advice on how to run your own business. Good thought here.
Lastly, the “Parenting” section is all about parenting tips and celebrities having children. Nothing new here. Well, I forgot to mention that there is a nice neat search bar at the top right hand corner of Madame Noire so that you can search through all of this wonderful content with ease.
