I am 100% AGAINST testing products on animals, Animals are my favorite little creatures, I have two cats, Tommy (A.k.a Mr. Cow, Mr. Thomas Cow, and Frank), and my little princess Penny. I also have a beautiful Doberman named Mavis living with my little sisters right now. I know as house pets, My family and I would never let anything happen to them, but the testing of makeup on animals really breaks my heart. Earlier i saw something on tumblr about MAC and their testing on animals and i wanted to know some more, i did a little research and these are my findings.
Initially, MAC Cosmetics was an anti-cruelty brand, but as the brand got bigger with a higher revenue, i was disturbed to find that they started selling products in China, and had to abide by Chinese laws in, and allow testing on poor little animals. The company has made it public that they do not test ingredients on animals except places, Like China, that have made it law. Before products are imported to China, the company must pay for testing that is given the OK by the Chinese government.
Millions of animals are subjected to awful tests conducted by the cosmetic industry. Although many products tested have already been proven to be safe for human use, and even then many chemical compounds in this products are harmful to humans long term, giving us certain types of cancers and diseases, there are still potentially harmful products being injected, and forced into the eyes, fur, and skin of animals.
As you may already assume, these procedures are extremely painful for the animals. It seems as though these products are being tested for no reason, as humans are not biologically the same as these animals, therefore they could have none of the similar side effects. These animals being tested are subjected to horrible living conditions, living in tiny, disgusting cages for most of their lives.
(I know, poor bunnies!)
I’m certainly disgusted after finding this out, so if you’d like to learn more on the topic, you can always go to PETA.com, and see which companies are cruelty-free, and others that are not.
Here are some brands that i use that DO NOT test on animals:
- Too-faced (I love their bronzer and they have some bomb eyeshadows i can’t wait to try)
- E.L.F (I do not recommend their products, although they don’t test on animals, they are poorly made and not great quality)

- Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics
- LUSH Cosmetics
